Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2013) – A goal by Shelby Perkins in double overtime pushed Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Transylvania to a 5-4 comeback win over the Sewanee field hockey team Saturday at Puett Field.
With the loss, Sewanee fell to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Early on, the Tigers dominated. Goals by Karen Dawson and Carrie Anderson quickly pushed Sewanee's lead to 2-0 in the opening minutes of the match.
After a goal by Transy's Sydney Kats, the Tigers extended their advantage to 3-1 as Kya Wence netted a shot off an assist by Anderson.
After the intermission, it looked like the Tigers would continue to pull away after an opening second-half goal by Dawson.
However, Transy rallied over the next 19 minutes. Three straight scores from the Pioneers sent the match into overtime.
After Sewanee outshot Transy 8-0 in the first overtime, the match was stilled tied at 4-4 heading into the second extra period.
The Tigers quickly fired five shots, however Transy keeper Sara Aschbacher turned away each attempt.
That eventually set up Perkins for the game-winner in the 92nd minute.
Overall, the Tigers dominated the statistics. Sewanee finished with a 30-shot advantage, 45-15 and an 18-3 margin in corners.
Unfortunately, Aschbacher finished with 22 saves, including nine in overtime.
Individually, Dawson finished with two goals and four points on three shots. Anderson also played well on offense with 17 shots, eight shots on goal, one goal, and one assist.
The Tigers will look to rebound with a 10:30 a.m. match against league-leading Centre, Sunday.
