Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2013) – An unassisted goal in double overtime by senior Allie White lifted the Sewanee women's soccer team past Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Hendrix on a cold Friday night at Puett Field.
With the victory, Sewanee improved to 10-3-1 overall and are now 2-2-0 in the SAA.
White opened the match with a goal late in the first half off a pass from freshman Katie Morrison.
After goals by Samantha Lallas and Syndey King, freshman Nikki Johnston scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute from freshman Shelby Meckstroth.
In the first overtime, Sewanee had the only shot of the period, as senior Ellie Quinn's attempt was saved by Hendrix keeper Rachel Zweig.
As the second overtime period began, the Tigers quickly had their first scoring chance when Jamie Samociuk took a corner kick. On the ensuing play, freshman Tyler Edell fired a shot just high.
After Edell missed once more, this time wide, White came through two minutes later with the game-winner in the 105th minute.
Overall, Sewanee dominated the shot count 25-8. The Tigers also had a huge advantage in corners attempts by an 11-1 margin.
Individually, Meckstroth finished with seven attempts while White added a season-high six shots.
Additionally, Edell, Samociuk, Morrison, and freshman Tasha Saunders finished with more than one attempt.
The Tigers will look to move up the conference standing when league rival Rhodes travels to Sewanee, Sunday. That match is schedule to begin 4:00 p.m. at Puett Field.
