Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2012) – Three first-half goals lifted the Sewanee field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Transylvania, Saturday, at the Sewanee IM Field.
From the start, the Tigers came out strong. After a number of attempts the first five minutes, senior forward Anne Booke broke the scoreless tie with a goal, off an assist by Molly Kennedy.
Later in the half, freshman Warren Davis put Sewanee up 2-0 with goal in the 23rd minute. The Tigers continued to add to their lead later in the half, when Cameron Herndon scored off a pass from Sydney Philpott.
In the second half, the Pioneers managed to score two goals when Molly Dean and Faye Katz each converted their attempts.
Overall, Sewanee dominated the shot count 33-17. Individually, Kennedy led all players with 10 shots while Booke finished with eight attempts. Additionally, Davis, Herndon, Zuie Billings, and Austen Zoutewelle each had more than two shot attempts.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Anna Morrow earned her fourth win after she stopped seven shots.
Sewanee returns to action September 29, at Hendrix College. That match is scheduled to start at noon.
