Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 2, 2012) – Powered by a vigorous offense, the Sewanee field hockey team blew past Transylvania 9-1 Sunday.
Behind seven first-half goals, the Tigers led quickly. Two early goals by Tilden Davis and Anne Booke gave Sewanee a 4-0 advantage. Moments later, Mary Kate McAlister, Maggie Boozer, and Warren Davis also added scores.
In the second half, Cameron Herndon and Molly Kennedy added to the Tiger lead with two more goals. Sara Clark eventually added a goal for Transylvania, after Sewanee built its 9-0 advantage.
"Our ball movement won the day for us," said Sewanee Head Coach Michele Dombrowski. "That enabled us to create a number of scoring chances. Executing in the circle has been a focus for this team and we really made smart decisions with the ball."
Defensively, goalkeepers Anna Morrow and Ellie Barton combined for 11 saves.
"Our defense did a great job intercepting and distributing the ball," commented Dombrowski. "Their ability to step up and make the play really enabled our offense to click."
The Tigers will look to stay unbeaten with a 1:00 p.m., match Saturday, September 8 against Centre. That match will also be the first-ever SAA Conference contest.
