Roanoke rallies for a 2-1 win

ROANOKE, Va. (Sept. 15, 2012) – The Sewanee field hockey team could not hold on after its first-half goal, as the Tigers fell late to Roanoke 2-1 Saturday. 

Sewanee (3-2) got on the board first, as Janie Spilman converted a penalty stroke in the 17th minute. 

In the second period, Roanoke rallied. The Maroons broke through with two goals by Kelly Finn. 

Despite 11 additional shots on goal, the Tigers failed to get another attempt past Roanoke keeper Darian Shuker.

Overall, both teams were even in total shots with 16 each.  Individually, Molly Kennedy led Sewanee with six attempts. 

The Tigers will wrap up their three-match road trip with a 2:30 p.m., (EST) contest, Sunday, against Bridgewater.
