BIRIMINGHAM, Ala. (April 27, 2012) – Despite leading 6-4 at halftime, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team fell to Colorado College after the Tigers rallied for a 14-9 win, Friday, during semifinal action of the 2012 SCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship.
With the loss, Sewanee ends its best season in program history with a 12-5 overall record. Colorado College moves on after the Tigers improved their overall record to 11-2.
Early on, play was close after each team scored two goals in the first period. As second period action got underway, Sewanee took a 3-2 lead when senior Jack Thomasson scored off an assist by Reed Daniel. Less then a minute later, sophomore Michael Morris added to the Sewanee advantage with his second goal of the half.
After Colorado College managed to tie the match at 4-4, Sewanee closed the first half with goals by Drew Lincoln and Lincoln Leahy.
Unfortunately, Colorado College responded in the second half, with five out of the first six goals.
Sewanee would get as close as one, 9-8, when Thomasson opened the fourth period with another goal from Daniel. However, any momentum for the Tigers was short lived, as Colorado added four more goals.
Individually, Morris led Sewanee with three goals on five shots. Thomasson added two goals, while Pierce Leonard, James Millard, Leahy and Lincoln added one goal each.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Healy finished a busy night with a game-high 16 saves.
