Tigers Fall in Doubleheader Sweep to Judson College

SEWANEE, Tenn
. 3/5/12 – Judson College took both ends of a doubleheader today from the Sewanee Tigers.  The Eagles won the opener 10-5 and the second game 13-3.
 
With the losses Sewanee's record falls to 1-4 on the season.
 
In the first game Judson jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after two and a half innings of play. 
 
The Tigers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the gap to 7-4.  Erin Polena led off the inning by reaching second base on an error by the Judson left fielder.  With one out Kayla Sewell doubled chasing home Polena with the Tiger's first run of the game.  A two-out single by Michelle Thibodeaux plated Sewell making the score 7-2.  Codi Ellis singled putting runners at first and second.  Senior Carly Warfield then doubled home Thibodeaux and Ellis to make the score 7-4 after three innings of play.
 
The Eagles added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to increase their lead to 10-4.
 
Sewanee added one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a homerun by freshman Sarah Hamilton.  It was Hamilton's first homer of the season.
 
Hamilton suffered the loss in the circle for the Tigers in Game 1.
 
The Tigers were paced at the plate by three-hit performances by Warfield and Sewell.  Hamilton and Ellis each contributed two hits to the Sewanee 13-hit attack.  Warfield led the way with two RBI and Sewell, Hamilton and Thibodeaux each had one RBI.
 
In the second game of the afternoon doubleheader, Sewanee again found itself behind 7-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
In the home half of the fourth, the Tigers scored three runs to cut the Judson lead to four runs.  The inning was highlighted by Sewell's third homerun of the season, a solo shot to centerfield.  Thibodeaux and Warfield also chipped in RBI hits in the inning.
 
Judson responded with six runs in the top of the fifth in route to the 13-3 victory.
 
Thibodeaux was the losing pitcher.
 
Sewell, Warfield, Thibodeaux and Hamilton all had one hit in the game, while Sewell, Warfield and Thibodeaux drove in one run each.
 
The Tigers will return to action on Friday afternoon when the play host to Rust College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
