Late surge not enough, Sewanee falls at Centre

Box Score Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (March 30, 2012) – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team fell just short Friday night, as the Tigers dropped a close 10-9 contest at SCAC rival Centre.

With the loss, Sewanee falls to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Down by three, midway through the second period, the Tigers cut the deficit to two when Reed Daniel scored his first goal with 8:04 left. Five minutes later, Davis Brown added to the Sewanee total when he netted a man-up goal off an assist from James Millard.

Centre quickly built its advantage back, when the Tigers added two goals to open the third. After a pair of Sewanee goals from Daniel and Drew Lincoln, Centre went up 10-6 with goals by Samuel Rush and Connor Stubbs.

With 4:09 left, Sewanee did mount a late comeback when Lincoln and Brown combined for three goals.

Sewanee finished with 45 shots, compared to Centre, who fired 29 attempts. The Tigers also had fewer turnovers and won the face-off battle.

Unfortunately, Centre goalkeeper Clayton Brown, who made 17 saves, nullified those statistics.

Brown led Sewanee with four goals on 15 shots. Lincoln, Daniel, and Michael Morris were the other Tigers that scored. Additionally, Morris added a game-high three assists.

The Tigers continue conference play with a 6 p.m. match against Millsaps April 6, in Sewanee.
