AUBURNDALE, Fla. 3/23/12 – The Sewanee Tigers defeated the Fontbonne University Griffins 3-1 today in Auburndale, Florida for their third consecutive win at the Russ Matt Invitational.
With the win the Tigers up their record to 8-11 on the season.
For the second consecutive day an outstanding relief appearance keyed the victory. Freshman
Michael Walker relieved starting pitcher
Wilson Nealy in the top of the fourth inning. Walker worked the final six innings allowing no runs on only one hit to pick up the win.
Scott Ward, in his first action of the Florida spring break trip, was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, including a ninth-inning solo homerun.
Blake Bays had three hits, while
Ryne Sullivan and
James Snover contributed two hits each.
Alan Komorowski drove in a run with a single and
Jack Rogers picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers will wrap up Russ-Matt action tomorrow when they face Worcester State University at the Chain O' Lakes Complex in Winter Haven at 1:30 pm.
