BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 12, 2012) – SCAC rival Birmingham-Southern looked like the No. 10 ranked team in the nation, as the Panthers rolled past Sewanee, 85-49, Sunday, inside Bill Battle Coliseum.
Sewanee (11-11 overall, 5-9 SCAC) led only once, when junior
Lewis Affronti hit a three with 18:57 remaining in the first half. The Panthers led by 17, 23-6, after Birmingham-Southern closed a 20-3 run. The Panthers continued to roll before
Trent Williams pulled Sewanee to within 21, 40-19, with 6:27 left. From there, things did not improve much as Birmingham-Southern closed the half on a 21-10 run.
In second half action, Birmingham-Southern outscored Sewanee 34-20.
As a team, the Tigers made only 34 percent of their attempts. That stat included a 7-of-25 effort from behind the three-point line.
Individually, guard
Brett Bouldin finished with a game-high 20 points. The junior was the lone bright spot for the Tiger offense after he made 50 percent of his attempts (5-for-10).
Birmingham-Southern was led by Kevin Kegarise who finished with 15 points. Nick Murphy added 13 points while Jasen Jonus and Blaise White each pitched in 10.
Sewanee returns to action with an 8:00 p.m. contest against rival Rhodes, Friday.
