Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Nov. 17, 2012) – Senior Lewis Affronti led five double-figure scores as the Sewanee men's basketball team dominated Webster for a 78-68 season-opening win Saturday, inside Grant Gymnasium.
From the start, the Tigers played well. A three-pointer by Affronti extended the Sewanee lead to 14, 18-4, with 13:35 left in the first half.
After Sewanee led 35-22 at halftime, each team traded field goals early in the second half. Webster cut the lead to eight, 41-33, with a jumper by Roman Robinson.
However, Sewanee quickly responded with a pair of jumpers and free throw by freshman Seth Brown, along with a basket by sophomore Robert Veal.
Up 48-36 with 12:48 to play, Veal extended the lead again with his second field goal of the game.
Webster rallied with back-to-back threes by Dietrick Sooter and Cody Bradfisch.
However, the Gorloks' momentum was short lived when Sewanee came back strong after senior Brett Bouldin hit a three.
From there, junior guard Valentino Bryant and senior Tyler Brown secured the win with a number of key shots and free throws down the stretch.
Overall, Sewanee shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the floor. That total included an 11-of-21 effort (52.4 percent) from beyond the three-point line.
Individually, Affronti finished with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Additionally, Tyler Brown finished with 16 points and six rebounds while his younger brother Seth added six boards and 14 points.
Finally, Bryant added 12 points and a game-high six assists while Bouldin pitched in 11 points.
Bradfisch led Webster with a team-high 13 points.
Sewanee will quickly return to action with a 1:00 p.m., contest Sunday against MacMurray.
