Box Score MACON, GA. (Nov. 10, 2012) – Behind a strong second half, NCAA Division I program Mercer defeated the Sewanee men's basketball team, 65-36, Saturday in exhibition action inside Hawkins Arena.
Early on Sewanee stayed close. Down by eight, 16-8, with 12:09 left in the first half, a layup by Keshonn Carter pulled the Tigers to six. After a layup by T.J. Halice, Sewanee then cut the lead to five when Brett Bouldin hit a three with 7:56 left.
From there, Mercer closed the half on a 12-5 run to lead at halftime 30-18.
In the second half, the Bears came out strong. Mercer opened on a 14-2 run en route to hitting 56 percent of its shots.
Individually, senior forward Tyler Brown finished with a team-high nine points on 4-of-10 shooting. Brown's younger brother Seth, along with fellow freshman Nilan Hodge, each pitched in six points.
Mercer was led by guard Travis Smith, who finished 6-of-10 from the floor with a game-high 15 points. Additionally, guard Bud Thomas and Halice each added nine points.
The Tigers will officially open their 2012-13 season next Saturday at Webster. That game is scheduled to tipoff at 8:00 p.m., in St. Louis, Mo.
