COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2012) – The Sewanee men's basketball team could not hold off a late run by Colorado College, falling to the Tigers, 68-60, Sunday afternoon inside the El Pomar Sports Center.
Down by five late in the first half, Sewanee (8-6, 3-4 SCAC) began its initial comeback when senior
Trent Williams connected on a three with 4:30 remaining. After two Colorado College field goals, sophomore
Valentino Bryant pulled the Tigers to within four, 32-28, with a free throw with three minutes left in the half. Moments later, Sewanee would cap off the comeback after sophomore
Robert Veal, Williams, and Bryant combined for a 6-1 run heading into the intermission.
After seeing its lead grow to eight, 49-41, midway through the second half, Sewanee's offense started to slow. As a result, with 4:06 left, Colorado took the lead after a Ian Rewoldt jumper. On the ensuing play, Sewanee briefly tied the contest, 55-55, when Veal answered with a jumper of his own.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as Sewanee got. Colorado finished on a 13-5 run, the final three minutes of play, to end any chance of a Sewanee win.
For the game, Sewanee shot 49 percent from the floor. The Tigers also finished with 29 rebounds and 11 assists.
Individually, Bryant led Sewanee with 14 points. The only other Tiger in double figures was Williams who added 11 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting.
For Colorado College, Jake Tramadol and Ryan Milne each finished with a game-high 21 points.
Sewanee returns to action with a 8:00 p.m. contest January 20 against Trinity inside Juhan Gymnasium.
