Final Statistics
GRANVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 4, 2011) – A day removed from a four goal offensive showing the Sewanee field hockey could not keep its momentum as the Tigers fell to Denison University 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
With the loss Sewanee falls to 1-1 in its young season, while the Big Red improved to a 2-0 mark.
Denison opened the scoring midway through the first half as Tonie Michaels stole a Sewanee pass around midfield and then eased a long pass to teammate Katie McMahon, who beat Tiger junior goalkeeper
Anna Morrow on the breakaway.
The score stayed at 1-0 until the 59
th minute of the second half, when the Big Red went on the attack again. After McMahon fired a crossing pass through a number of players, forward Alex Berman was able to find the back of the cage through the traffic giving Denison the final two goal advantage.
Individually, five Tiger players led the offense with a shot apiece. Overall, the Big Red outpaced Sewanee 15-5, with Morrow stopping seven of those shot attempts on goal.
Sewanee will now take almost two weeks off before returning to play at Transylvania September 17.
