DELAWARE, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2011) – In its first contest of the 2011 season head coach
Michele Dombrowski's squad opened with a strong 4-1 road win at Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday at Shelby Stadium.
As play got underway the Tigers jumped out in front quickly with a their first goal just six minutes into the match. On the play sophomore forward
Tilden Davis centered a pass to senior forward
Elise Landau who ripped a shot into the back of the net.
Minutes later Landau wasn't done as she pushed the Sewanee advantage to 2-0 with goal off of a Tiger rebound.
After OWU got on the board late in the first half with its first goal, Sewanee extended their lead back to a two goal advantage after sophomore forward
Karen Dawson pushed a goal into the cage in the 39
th minute.
Just when it looked like the scoring was finished Landau showed her offensive skills again with her third goal of the match after freshman midfielder Salle Anne Greenwood made a beautiful pass to the Wernersville, Pa., native off the rebound.
Overall, the Tigers lost the battle in shots, however junior goalkeeper
Anna Morrow stayed strong on the defensive side making eight saves on the day.
Sewanee will look to continue its winning ways as they take on Denison University with a noon contest Sunday in Granville, Ohio.
