LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2011) – With an outburst of offensive firepower the Sewanee field hockey team posted a strong win Saturday, as the Tigers took care of Transylvania University 3-0 at Hall Field in Lexington, Ky.
With the victory the Tigers moved to 2-1 on the young season, while Transy fell to 2-3.
As play opened Sewanee jumped out in front early as freshman defender
Ellie Murphy converted a penalty corner from sophomore midfielder
Mary Kate McAlister in the 30
th minute.
After taking their 1-0 lead into halftime the Tigers came out strong as junior midfielder
Cameron Herndon scored on Sewanee's second straight penalty corner in the 49
th minute. Later in the half senior
Elise Landau gave Sewanee its final insurance goal as the forward fired home a shot from Herndon in the 55
th minute.
Sewanee led Transylvania in overall shots 17-7, while junior goalkeeper
Anna Morrow made three saves on the day.
The Tigers will continue their five-match road trip with a 7:00 p.m. contest at league-rival Centre College, September 23
rd.
