Tigers and Maryville battle to a 1-1 draw

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2011) – In its first home match of the 2011 season the Sewanee women's soccer team and regional-rival Maryville battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday at the Pit on the campus of Sewanee: The University of the South.

Tiger forward Lizzie Butler found the back of the net first as the senior converted a nice pass from fellow classmate Layne Ezzell in the 39th minute giving the Tigers a one goal advantage in the first half.

The score would stay at 1-0 for the majority of the match, until Maryville forward Jordan Chase found midfielder Ashley Howarth inside the box, who tapped home the equalizer with five minutes to play.

Overall, Ezzell led the Tiger (0-3-1) attack with four shots in the match, while Maryville forward Alexis Franco fired a team-high two shots for the Scotts.

Sewanee will now look to break into the win column as the Tigers host Covenant College with a 5:00 p.m. contest, Wednesday.
