Down three goals at the
end of the first, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team scored 20
goals over the next three periods to defeat the Centre Colonels
21-7. Despite the
slow start, the Tigers dominated the second, third, and fourth
periods of the game to come away with their second conference win
in two days.
Centre scored four
unassisted goals to start the game before junior Jack
Thomasson (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfied) put the
first of his team-high seven goals away. Thomassson struck again at the
beginning of the second, and Sewanee continued on an eight goal
scoring streak with goals from sophomore Carson Pfiefer
(Louisville, Ky., Louisville Collegiate), freshman
Michael Morris (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's
Belfield), freshman Hobey Jiranek (Charlottesville, Va.,
St. Anne's Belfield), and senior Hank Gerrity
(Cumberland, Maine, North Yarmouth Academy). Centre would score
only more time in the first half before Thomasson and Pfiefer
added goals to put Sewanee up 10-5 at halftime.
Thomasson, junior
Brendan Eisenbrandt (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shady Side
Academy), and freshman Michael Morris (Charlottesville,
Va., St. Anne's Belfield) all notched goals in the first four
minutes of the third quarter, before Zack Connors scored the first
of his team-high two goals for Centre. Sophomore Thomas Moore
(Dallas, Texas, Episcopal School of Dallas) and Thomasson
wrapped up the third quarter with Sewanee goals, and freshman
Davis Brown (Norcross, Ga., Wesleyan School) scored just
1:50 into the fourth quarter. Sophomore Drew Lincoln
(Princeton, N.J., The Hill School), Pfeifer, Morris, and
sophomore Joe Irby (Lexington, Va., Rockbridge County High
School) each recorded goals to close out the game.
Sewanee outshot Centre
67-23 and picked up 43 ground balls to the Colonels' 25. The Tigers were 20 of 32
in face-offs and Sewanee goalie Spencer Graves (Lynchburg,
Va., Episcopal School) produced six saves to claim the
victory.
Sewanee moves to 3-1 in
conference and 4-6 overall. Next up for the Tigers is
