The Sewanee men's lacrosse team earned their second conference win with a 19-0 shutout against Oglethorpe. Nine Tigers scored goals and Sewanee outshot the Stormy Petrels 58-8 en route to the victory. Sewanee goalie Tommy Healy (Bethesda, Md., Gonzaga) recorded five saves over the course of the game to notch his first shutout of the season.
Junior Jack Thomasson (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfied) recorded the first four goals of the game, and added another in the final seconds of the second quarter to finish with a team-high five goals on the night. Sophomore Drew Lincoln (Princeton, N.J., The Hill School) added another goal with 2:35 to go in the first quarter to cap off a 5-0 zero run for Sewanee. The Tigers did not let up in the second quarter, and freshman Davis Brown (Norcross, Ga., Wesleyan School), freshman Michael Morris (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfield), sophomore Carson Pfiefer (Louisville, Ky., Louisville Collegiate), freshman Peter Rydell (Hudson, Ohio, Western Reserve Academy), and Thomasson contributed goals to put Sewanee up 13-0 going into the half.
Sophomore Thomas Moore (Dallas, Texas, Episcopal School of Dallas) struck first in the second half off a Morris assist. Pfiefer and Lincoln added goals in the third, and sophomores James Millard (Alexandria, Va., Deerfield Academy) and Joe Irby (Lexington, Va., Rockbridge County High School) found the back of the net in the fourth. Lincoln recorded the final goal of the game with 6:30 left to play to cap the Tigers off at 19.
Sewanee dominated Oglethorpe in almost every statistical category. The Tigers picked up 47 groundballs to the Stormy Petrals' 22, and committed only nine turnovers to the hosts' 12. Sewanee was 13-23 on faceoffs, went 12-13 on clears, and converted both of their extra man opportunities.
The Tigers are now 2-1 in the SCAC and 3-6 overall. Their next matchup is against conference opponent Centre College on April 2nd. The game will be played in Atlanta, Georgia at 2:00 p.m.
