Schurlknight, who pitched Sewanee's and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's first no-hitter of the season Thursday, March 10th, against Rust College, was honored after voting by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Schurlknight, a left-hander from Darlington, South Carolina, threw a no-hitter in a 19-0 win over the Bearcats in the first game of a doubleheader. He worked a complete game, throwing seven innings, striking out 12, and walking just two while allowing no hits to earn his first win in a Tiger uniform. Schurlknight also quarterbacks the Tiger football team.
In addition to his national honor, Schurlknight was named the SCAC's Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week and Sewanee's Tiger of the Week. He shared his honor with the NCBWA's Hitter of the Week, Michael Pascarella of the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.
