Tigers off to best start since 2001-02 after 88-42 win over Free Will Baptist

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 19, 2011) –  After opening the game on a 23-9 run, the Sewanee men's basketball team never looked back as the Tigers defeated Free Will Baptist 88-42 Saturday inside Juhan Gymnasium.
 
With the win, the Tigers are now 3-0 this season. Sewanee is off to its best start since the 2001-02 campaign.
 
Sewanee took a commanding 48-13 lead at the intermission after guard Valentino Bryant led the offense with 20 points in the opening half.
 
The Tigers continued to dominate as the game wore on. With a 60-22 lead midway through the second half sophomore Bryan Beviacqua opened a 15-8 Sewanee run after he hit three straight fields goals.
 
Sewanee would go on to shot 45 percent from the field while holding Free Will Baptist to a dismal 29 percent.
 
Individually, Bryant finished with 23 points to go along with eight rebounds. In addition, Anvil Nelson added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds while Beviacqua finished with 11 points on a perfect 4-for-4 night.
 
Free Will Baptist guard David Landers led all scores with 22 points. No other Flame posted over five points.
 
Sewanee returns to action with 8:00 p.m. contest November 29th at Covenant. The Scots also posted a 2-0 record this weekend at the 16th annual Lon Varnell Classic.
