Box Score Final Statistics: Sewanee vs. Rhodes
SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 23, 2011) – After playing a close physical match throughout regulation and one overtime period, the Sewanee women's soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion as SCAC rival Rhodes dropped the Tigers 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Puett Field.
With the loss Sewanee now sits at 5-9-2 overall with a 3-3-1 mark in league play.
The Tigers best scoring opportunity came midway through the second half as it looked like senior Virginia Zakas found the back of the net off Sewanee's initial shot. Unfortunately, the goal did not stand after one of the officials called Sewanee offside.
The lone Rhodes goal came just two minutes into the second overtime period after midfielder Ashley Ladd settled the ball just outside the 18 and fired home the game-winner.
As with most things in the match, the offensive statistics were fairly even. Rhodes outshot Sewanee 12-11, while the Tigers held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. match next Friday night at Birmingham-Southern.
