Box Score: Sewanee vs. Trinity
SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2011) – Playing one of the top teams not only in the SCAC, but in all of Division III soccer the Sewanee women's soccer team could not overcome the offensive firepower of league-leading Trinity, losing to the Tigers 3-0 Sunday at Puett Field.
With the loss Sewanee drops to 3-6-1 overall and now sits with a 1-1 conference mark. Trinity improved to 11-0 this season, while earning its second straight league victory.
Trinity jumped out early as Abby Loar found the back of the net after the forward dribbled through the Sewanee defense, beating junior goalkeeper
Britt Williams with only 1:24 off the clock in the first half.
The Tigers would add to their lead later in the period as midfielder Shelby Guenthardt tapped home a pass from Loar, giving Trinity at 2-0 lead at the break.
Trinity would go on and add one more score as midfielder Stephanie Segona tapped home the final goal of the match in the 84
th minute.
Overall, the strong Trinity offense outshot Sewanee 10-2. Individually, Sewanee goalkeeper Meagan Poole – who started the second half – made a game-high three saves, while freshman
Jamie Samociuk and senior
Lizzie Butler put up one shot each.
Sewanee returns to action next with a 2:00 p.m. match at the University of the Dallas next Friday.
