Box Score
The Sewanee field hockey team played host to visiting Centre College this afternoon, and after falling behind 1-0 early on, the squad was unable to recover before falling 2-1 in the SCAC contest.
Centre struck first when freshman Chelsea Klein scored on an assist from Courtney Kuiper with 23:34 left in the first half. Sewanee was able to answer quickly with a tying goal when sophomore
Molly Kennedy put one past Centre keeper Patty Cowley with 16:06 left before halftime. The score would remain knotted through the intermission.
The second half proved to be a defensive struggle between the Tigers and the Colonels. Sewanee goalkeeper
Anna Morrow and her Centre counterpart Cowley each recorded four saves to hold the offenses in check. Morrow provided standout defensive play, including denying a penalty stroke attempt by Centre's Sarah Humphries. It wasn't enough though, as Centre was able to grab a second-half goal from the Tigers to come away with a 2-1 victory.
The Tigers fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in SCAC play. With the win, Centre moves to 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in SCAC play. Sewanee will host Transylvania tomorrow in a non-conference match at 1:00 p.m.
