LEXINGTON, Ky. 9/17/10 – The Sewanee Tigers were defeated by Huntingdon College and Albion College in volleyball action tonight at the Transylvania University Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
In the first game of the evening Huntingdon College prevailed over the Tigers 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13).
Freshman Tarver Shimek (Towson, Md., Towson) continued her excellent play as she led the Tigers in kills with eight. Setter Adrienne Borchardt (New Orleans, La., Ben Franklin) contributed 12 assists. Borchardt and Blair Barrows (Atlanta, Ga., Holy Innocents') came up with three digs. Liz Boddiford (Forest Hill, Md., Maryvale Prep) led Sewanee with three service aces and Kim Conkell (Atlanta, Ga, Lakeside) chipped in one block.
In Game 2 Sewanee dropped a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-14) match to Albion College.
Shimek and Borchardt again paced the Tigers with ten kills and ten assists, respectively. Shimek added six digs. Conkell had three service aces and Boddiford two blocks.
Sewanee falls to 0-10 on the season and will wrap up play at Transylvania tomorrow as they square off with Kenyon College at 1 pm and host Transylvania University at 3 pm.
