The Sewanee Tigers' field hockey team lost two matches over the weekend, dropping their record to 1-3 overall. The Tigers fell to Kenyon on Saturday by a score of 3-1 and to Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday, 2-1.
In the Tigers' opening game of the weekend, Kenyon scored two unanswered goals before Sewanee could get on the board. Kenyon's Sarah McNee recorded two goals in the first half to start things off for the Ladies. Sewanee's
Anne Booke was able to find the net at the five minute mark of the first, off an assist by
Taylor Skeen, to pull to 2-1 at the half. But Kenyon's Alex Bair scored off a penalty corner late in the second to make it 3-1. Bair's goal was enough and the Ladies would hold on for the win, dropping the Tigers's record to 1-2.
Emily Detmer and
Anna Morrow split time in goal, with Morrow recording eight saves on the day. The Tigers were only able to attempt eight shots on the day, compared to 17 for the Kenyon Ladies. Sewanee led in corners, 9-7.
Carly Grimm scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to start things off for the Tigers against Ohio Wesleyan, but the team wasn't able to find the net for the rest of the day. Ohio Wesleyan's Calina Hilyard scored her first goal of the day for the Battling Bishops to even the score at 1-1 in the first half. But Ohio Wesleyan was too much for the Tigers and Hilyard's second goal of the day, at the 42 minute mark in the second half, was enough to put Sewanee away.
Morrow tallied ten saves on the day at the goalkeeper spot, while OWU's Abbie Martin recorded 14. Sewanee took 15 shots and the Bishops attempted 19. Ohio Wesleyan led in corners, 14-6.
The Tigers will be back in action next weekend when they host visiting SCAC foe DePauw University on Saturday at noon. The DePauw Tigers are 5-0 after posting five straight shutouts.
