SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team honored senior Terrell McWhirter (Nashville, Tenn., Montgomery Bell Academy) Sunday for Senior Day and did it in fine fashion, picking up a 19-6 SCAC win over Southwestern. The Tigers got out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, earning the 13-goal win.
Pierce Leonard (Charlotte, N.C., Culver Academy) and Thomas Moore (Dallas, Texas, Episcopal) led Sewanee with three goals each.Drew Lincoln (Princeton, N.J., The Hill School), Hank Gerrity (Cumberland, Maine, North Yarmouth Academy) and Jameel Stokes (Atlanta, Ga., Lovett) scored two goals each. Teddy Peterson (McLean, Va., Episcopal ) picked up a team-high eight ground balls. Senior McWhirter had five ground balls. Edward Williams led the Pirates with two goals. Patrick Quinn (Germantown, Tenn., Christian Brothers HS) led Sewanee in goal and had three saves and the win. Sewanee outshot Southwestern 50-17 and led 41-16 in ground balls. The Tigers also won 19 of 26 faceoffs.
Sewanee is now 3-9 and 1-1 in the SCAC. The Tigers will wrap up the season in two weeks with games against Hendrix and Colorado College at Hendrix. Southwestern is 1-11 and 1-3 in the SCAC.
