SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team hosted Carthage at Puett Field Monday night and got out to an early 4-1 lead. Carthage began its rally in the second quarter and the score was tied 4-4 at the halftime break. In the second, the teams traded goals until Carthage finally got two goals ahead for the 9-7 win.
Jack Thomasson (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) and Carson Pfeifer (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate) led Sewanee offensive effort with two goals apiece. Stewart Calder (New Canaan, Conn., New Canaan HS) faced 28 shots in goal and logged nine saves for Sewanee. Keegan Bauman led Carthage with four goals and Dan Hurst faced 33 Sewanee shots and made 11 saves. Sewanee had a 38-20 advantage in ground balls and won 10 of 16 faceoffs. Teddy Peterson (McLean, Va., Episcopal ) won eight of Sewanee's 10 faceoffs.
The Tigers are 0-3 so far and will play Greensboro, Catholic and Hamilton on a spring break road trip through Georgia and North Carolina. Carthage is now 4-0.
