SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee hosted Oberlin in men's lacrosse action Saturday and picked up a 16-14 win over the visiting Yoemen. Sewanee led 10-6 at the half. In the second, Oberlin had a late rally to pull to within two, but the Tigers held the Yoemen off for the two-goal win.
Jack Thomasson (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) led the Sewanee effort with five goals.
Carson Pfeifer (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate) chipped in three goals, also.
Stewart Calder (New Canaan, Conn., New Canaan HS) logged nine saves in goal and earned the Tiger win. Sewanee outshot Oberlin 44-30 and picked up 48 ground balls compared to 49 for Oberlin.
The Tigers are now 1-6 and will open SCAC league play against Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday night on the Mountain.
