Wittenberg Nips Sewanee Men's Lacrosse

NASHVILLE -- Sewanee men's lacrosse hosted Wittenberg in Nashville at Montgomery Bell Academy on Saturday and after leading 5-0 at the half, Wittenberg got the 16-1 DIII win over Sewanee. Sewanee rallied a bit after the halftime break with a Brendan Eisenbrandt (Pittsburg, Pa., Shady Side Academy) goal, but the Ohio Tigers scored 11 more to get the 15-goal win over the purple Tigers from Tennessee.

Stewart Calder (New Canaan, Conn., New Canaan HS) faced 50 shots in goal and earned 17 saves on the day. Matt Lord led Wittenberg's scoring with three goals. Sewanee was successful in 16 of 23 clear attempts, while Wittenberg was 19-21 in clear attempts. Wittenberg won 10 faceoffs, compared to eight for Sewanee.

Sewanee is 0-1 so far in 2010 and will host Washington and Lee on Wednesday at Puett Field. Wittenberg is 1-0.
