Box Score
Taylor Skeen (Baltimore, Md., Towson) put a shot past DePauw goalkeeper Liz Attewell at the end of the first half, but it wasn't enough, as the DePauw Tigers topped visiting Sewanee, 3-1.
DePauw's Margaret Ellis kicked things off just six minutes and thirteen seconds into the contest, when she scored an unassisted goal. Ellis notched her second goal of the day 22 minutes later, when she found the net at the 28:37 mark and put one past Sewanee goalkeeper Anna Morrow (Annapolis, Md., St. James). DePauw's defense stifled the visiting Tigers through the entire first half, limiting Sewanee to just two shots in the period. Skeen was able to get the purple Tigers on the board though with just 37 seconds left in the half. Sewanee earned a penalty corner, which senior Carly Grimm (South Salem, N.Y., John Jay) took. Skeen converted on the pass, putting her shot past Attewell to pull within one as the half closed out.
The second half proved to be even more of a defensive struggle than the first, as DePauw out shot Sewanee eight to one in the second. DePauw's Addie McDonnell added an insurance goal in the 61st minute to put the host Tigers ahead 3-1.
DePauw held the advantage in shots, 26-3, on the day, and also in corners, 14-2. Morrow tallied thirteen saves for Sewanee in the first half, while senior Emily Detmer (Denver, Colo., Pomfret) recorded five in the second. Sewanee falls to 3-7 on the season and 1-4 in conference play, while DePauw moves to 10-2 and 4-1 in SCAC play. The Tigers will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to face Division II Bellarmine. The Knights are 9-1 on the season and are ranked 8th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Division II poll.
