Caroline Carlin and Elise Landau each notched two goals for the Tigers, as Sewanee rolled over Transylvania, 5-0, in field hockey action this afternoon. Landau got the visiting Tigers on the board less than two minutes into the contest and Sewanee never looked back on their way to the win in their regular season finale. The victory moves Sewanee to 5-11 overall while Transy falls to 1-14 on the year.
Landau struck early, putting a shot past Pioneer goalkeeper Anna Melnykovch just 1:45 into the match. Landau's first goal came off an assist from Anne Booke and put the visitors ahead 1-0 early on. Taylor Skeen added to the Sewanee lead just minutes later when, at the 4:55 mark, she put an unassisted goal in the net to make it 2-0 Tigers.
Landau picked up her second score of the afternoon almost fifteen minutes later. She put an unassisted shot past Melnykovch at the 19:36 mark and Sewanee held onto the 3-0 lead through the rest of the half.
The second half belonged to Carlin. The Tigers were held scoreless for nearly twenty minutes of the period, but Carlin grabbed two quick insurance goals in the 54th and 64th minutes. Both of her goals were unassisted and together they gave Sewanee the 5-0 victory.
Anna Morrow and Emily Detmer split time in goal for Sewanee and picked up the shutout. The Tigers took 21 shots in the contest but complete statistics were unavailable at press time.
Sewanee will now move on the SCAC Field Hockey Championships which will be hosted by DePauw University next weekend. Sewanee will face Hendrix at noon on Friday in the fourth and fifth-seed game.
