Sewanee vs. Centre - Box Score
DANVILLE, Ky. 10/30/10 – The Sewanee Tigers dropped matches to Piedmont College and Centre College today in Division III volleyball action played in Danville, Ky.
Sewanee fell to Piedmont in straight sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-17).
The Tigers were led in kills by Liz Boddiford (Forest Hill, Md., Maryvale Prep) with five. Erin Brahm (Huntsville, Ala., Grissom) led Sewanee with nine assists and eight digs while Adrienne Borchardt (New Orleans, La., Ben Franklin) recorded two service aces.
In the second match of the day the Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision to host Centre. The Colonels took the first two sets by scores of 25-10 and 25-11. Sewanee extended the match by taking a 25-23 decision in the third set. Centre bounced back to take the fourth set and the match by a 25-10 score.
Boddiford again led Sewanee with eight kills. Brahm had eight assists and a season high 20 digs. Tarver Shimek (Towson, Md., Towson) paced Sewanee with two aces and Kim Conkell (Atlanta, Ga, Lakeside) had four blocks.
“We did some things very well today, particularly serving and getting defensive touches on the ball,” said head coach Jessica Cortese following today's play. “We had 63 total digs against Centre so we are continuing to make defensive strides. It felt good to take a game from Centre because they are a quality team. We had some reception problems today that will be addressed during practice next week, but I am pleased with the effort the players displayed today.”
The Tigers drop to 2-32 on the season.
Sewanee will participate in the SCAC volleyball tournament next weekend in San Antonio, Tex. The Tigers enter the tournament as the \#11 seed and will take on Rhodes College on Friday morning at 11:30. Trinity University will host the tournament.
