Box Score - Sewanee vs. Millsaps
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. 10/3/10 – Hendrix College and Millsaps College topped the Sewanee Tigers in volleyball today at the SCAC Cross Divisional played at Birmingham Southern College. Both matches were decided by 3-0 scores.
In the first match of the day, Hendrix defeated Sewanee by set scores of 25-16, 26-24 and 25-19.
Kim Conkell (Atlanta, Ga, Lakeside) led Sewanee with seven kills and one block, while Erin Brahm (Huntsville, Ala., Grissom) had 19 assists. Liz Boddiford (Forest Hill, Md., Maryvale Prep) paced the Tigers with 15 digs and four aces.
The Tigers closed out the weekend with a straight set loss to Millsaps by scores of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-20.
Boddiford led the way with 13 kills. Brahm had 19 assists and Adrienne Borchardt (New Orleans, La., Ben Franklin) chipped in 12 digs. Boddiford and Brahm each had one block and Callie Sims (Asheville, N.C., Carolina Day School), Tarver Shimek (Towson, Md., Towson) and Conkell had one ace apiece.
"We are still looking for that breakthrough that we have been working towards all season,” commented head coach Jessica Cortese. “Today was an improvement on yesterday, so if we continue to build on the good things and work out our deficiencies I think it's only a matter of time before we start making a more serious run at some of these teams. For the first time in a month we had all of our players back on the court this weekend, so we are going to continue to push ourselves to regain our rhythm as we go into our sole match this week (at home on Thursday at 6 pm)."
The Tigers host Oakwood College on Thursday at 6 pm at Juhan Gymnasium.
