SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee men's basketball team hosted Colorado College Friday night in SCAC play and Bubba Smith's Tigers topped the visiting Tigers 62-55 after being locked at 28 points apiece at halftime."Tonight was a game this team needed," said Smith. " We've seen flashes this season and our team has played well for 20, sometimes 30 minutes. Tonight we put 40 minutes together of great toughness and execution. I was proud of how they fought and competed tonight. To hold them to 8 field goals in the second half and win the battle of the boards was the difference tonight."
Garrett Hollingsworth (Roanoke, Va., North Cross) had a doube-double for Sewanee with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He leads the Tigers this year, averaging better than 10 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Lewis Affronti (Virginia Beach, Va., Norfolk Academy) and Trent Williams (Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Lawrence County) each had 11 for Sewanee. Point Guard Tony Marelle (Atlanta, Ga., Mt. Pisgah) had four assists and only one turnover. Nick Rose had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead CC. "Garrett battled for us and made some big plays down the stretch and Tony did a great job of managing the game," continued Smith. "Sam Martin was the spark off the bench we needed and was probably the difference in the game. Hopefully we can carry over this momentum into Sunday."
