2009 Men's Lacrosse: Alfred Stops Sewanee's Rally

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee hosted Alfred (NY) at Puett Field on Monday and after falling behind 6-1 at halftime, the Tigers rallied, outscoring the visiting Saxons 3-0 in the fourth quarter. The rally was stopped short, though, and Alfred held on for the 8-5 win.

Neat Clark (Houston, Texas, Houston Episcopal School) and Michael Johnson (Baltimore, Md., Gilman School) each scored two goals for Sewanee. Will Grimes (Marietta, Ga., Harrison HS) logged a goal and an assist, while Johnson assisted a goal, also. Sean Roberts and Justin Gill each had two goals to lead Alfred.

Sewanee won 10 of 16 faceoffs and outshot Alfred on the day. The Tigers also led in ground balls, picking up 38 in the match. Stewart Calder (New Canaan, Conn., New Canaan HS) had seven saves in goal for Sewanee and Adam Schutz had 12 for Alfred.

Sewanee is 0-4 so far and will play Guilford and Greensboro in North Carolina this week before returning home on March 21 to host Oberlin.
