SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's seniors led the Tigers to a
92-88 double overtime win over the visiting Stormy Petrels of
Oglethorpe in SCAC men's basketball, scoring 77 of the Tigers
92 points.
Sewanee led 37-35 at the half and a pair of Ben Pursell
(Franklin, Tenn., BGA) free-throws tied the game at 74 at the
end of regulation. Pursell came through in the clutch at the end of
the first overtime, draining a three-pointer to even the score at
79. The Tigers controlled the second OT period, gaining the
eventual four-point win.
Casey Berry (Naples, Fla., Community School) had a
double-double for Sewanee, logging 16 points and 11 assists, while
Kenton Coleman (Ridgetop, Tenn., Greenbrier) led the
overall Sewanee scoring with 22 points. Coleman was 6-8 from behind
the three-point line. Bradley Pierson (Rome, Ga.,
Darlington) had 19 points and Pursell had 18. Pursell also
led with nine rebounds. Newcomer Trent Williams (Lawrenceburg,
Tenn., Lawrence County) was also in double digits with 11
Sewanee points. David Allison led OU with 22 points.
Sewanee shot 46% from the field, whole OU was 44% accurate.
Sewanee had the 41-40 edge in rebounds, also. Sewanee made 16
three-pointers in the contest compared to 13 for the visiting
Petrels.
Sewanee is now 5-16 and 3-8 in the SCAC. Oglethorpe is 14-7 and
falls to 6-5 in the league.
