SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Sewanee men's basketball team hosted Tennessee Temple Tuesday night and led early. The visiting Crusaders caught up and took the lead in the first, but Sewanee went on an 11-0 run late in the first to get the 35-32 edge going into intermission. The close battle continued in the second and Tennessee Temple came out on top in the see-saw contest with a 78-74 final edge.
Junior point guard
Tony Marelle (Atlanta, Ga., Mt. Pisgah) led Sewanee with 17 points, while
Andrew Little (Charlotte, N. C., Southlake Christian) and
Lewis Affronti (Virginia Beach, Va., Norfolk Academy) were in double digits with 14 and 13 points. Sewanee shot 52% from the field compared to 48% for TTU. Sewanee also made seven three-pointers, compared to just three for the Cruaders. The Tigers made 86% of their field goals and Tennessee Temple made 65% from the line.
Sewanee is now 3-2 and will host Oglethorpe Saturday night to open SCAC league play. Tennessee Temple is now 5-6.
