SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Sewanee women's soccer team earned its 10th win and ninth shutout of 2009 with a 2-0 shutout of SCAC foe Southwestern at Puett Field Friday night. Before the game, seniors
Elizabeth Constantine (Nokesville, Va., Madeira),
Lizzy Magrath (Norwalk, Conn., King & Low-Heywood Thomas),
Allison Davis (Carbondale, Ill., Carbondale) and
Lacy Morrison (Signal Mountain, Tenn., Baylor) were honored before the match for senior night.
After a scoreless first period,
Lizzie Butler (Carrabelle, Fla., Wakulla) scored the winning goal for Sewanee in the 46th minute unassisted. In the 87th minute,
Faith Spencer (New York, N.Y., Hotchkiss) scored on a cross from
Kabler Colhoun (Winston-Salem, N.C., Mount Taber) to add an insurance goal for the Tigers.
Sewanee outshot the Pirates 14-5 and had seven corner kicks compared to five for Southwestern.
Britt Williams (Birmingham, Ala., Altamont) earned the shutout in goal for Sewanee and had three saves. Sarah Nonaka allowed two goals for the Pirates and logged five saves.
The Tigers are 10-1-3 so far in 2009 and are 5-0-2 in the SCAC (second place). Trinity is in first place in the league with a 6-0 SCAC record so far. The two teams will face each other on the Mountain at 1 pm Sunday.
