Harrisonburg, Va. -- Sewanee played game two of its three-game Fall Break outing at Eastern Mennonite Monday and fell 4-2 after trailing 2-1 at the half. EMU outshot Sewanee 46-13, but Sewanee held fast in the middle and the on-target shot count was 14-9 shots on goal in favor of EMU.
Adriana Santiago scored for EMU just 3:35 into the game, but Sewanee fired back four minutes later to tie the game on a
Caroline Carlin (Gladwyne, Penn., Country Day) goal. At 18:32, Santiago set up Katie Cimini who hit a goal from the left side to put EMU back on top, 2-1.
The lead stayed at one until the second half, when Alyssa Derstine drove up the left side and scored to make it 3-1 at 45:54. Sewanee fought back , though, and Carlin scored again for the Tigers at 51:15 to cut the lead in half. The 4-2 total would hold, though, and Sewanee fell to 6-6 so far in 2009. The Tigers will play at Washington and Lee tomorrow night before playing SCAC games at Hendrix and Rhodes this weekend.
