SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee outscored Austin College 43-35 in
the second half of Friday's SCAC men's basketball
action, but the Tiger rally was stopped short when the three-point
'Roo lead was increased to four on an Aaron Mewbourn free
throw to secure the 65-61 final tally in favor of the visiting
Kangaroos.
Bradley Pierson (Rome, Ga., Darlington) led the Tiger
scoring with 18 points and Ben Pursell (Franklin, Tenn.,
BGA) logged a double-double for Sewanee with 11 points and 18
rebounds. Pursell also had three steals and two blocks on the
night. Fellow seniors Kenton Coleman (Ridgetop, Tenn.,
Greenbrier) and Casey Berry (Naples, Fla., Community
School) were also in double digits with 12 and 10 points.
Chris Sturtevant led the Kangaroos with 19 points on the night.
Austin College was 46.8% good from the field, while Sewanee hit
44.4% of its field goals. Austin got 31 rebounds compared to 29 for
Sewanee. Sewanee is now 4-14 and 2-7 in the league. The Tigers will
host Colorado College at 2 pm on Sunday. Austin is currently 10-8
and 3-5 in the league.
This weekend also marks the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers
Weekend, in which both teams' coaches participated. Coaches
and staff nationwide are encouraged this weekend to wear white
sneakers with their coaching attire during games to help increase
awareness for the disease and promote the American Cancer Society.
The effort will continue on Sunday.
