BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sewanee was in Birmingham Friday night
for men's basketball contest against Birmingham-Southern and
after going into halftime at a 24 apiece tie, The Tigers fell 46-44
to the host Panthers.
Overall, the Panthers edged Sewanee out in field goal percentages,
knocking down 38%, compared to 37% for Sewanee. Sewanee made 18% of
three-point attempts, while BSC was only 13% good from behind the
line. Sewanee turned the ball over 12 times in the game, compared
to 11 turnovers for Birmingham-Southern.
Ben Pursell (Franklin, Tenn., BGA) led Sewanee's
effort with a 16 point, 13 rebound double-double performance.
Pursell is just 12 points away from hitting the 1,000 career point
mark. Fellow senior Bradley Pierson (Rome, Ga.,
Darlington) had 11 Sewanee points. Roger
Williams led the Panthers with nine points and eight
rebounds.
Sewanee is now 3-7 and will face Rhodes on Sunday. BSC is 6-4 and
will host Oglethorpe on Sunday.
