SEWANEE, Tenn. – After trailing 31-22 at the half, Sewanee
evened it up with visiting Millsaps in the second, but Bradley
Pierson's buzzer-beating three was just shy of its mark
and the Majors held on for the 58-56 men's basketball win.
Sewanee outscored Millsaps 34-27 in the second, but came up just
short. Pierson led Sewanee with 17 points and is currently leading
the Tiger scoring effort so far this year with an 18 point per game
average.
Sewanee was 44.4% accurate from the field, while Millsaps was
37.7% accurate. The Tigers were also 40% good from behind the
three-point line compared to 29.2% for Millsaps. Millsaps grabbed
31 rebounds and Sewanee had 29.
Along with Rome, Ga. native Pierson's 17 points, Kenton
Coleman (Ridgetop, Tenn., Greenbrier) was also in double
digits with 10. Fellow senior Ben Pursell (Franklin, Tenn.,
BGA) was honored before the game for breaking the 1,000 point
career mark this year and logged nine points tonight, making his
career total 1,033.
Sewanee is 3-10 so far and 1-4 in the SCAC. The Tigers will host
Hendrix on Sunday. Millsaps is 5-10 and 2-4 in the SCAC. The Majors
will play ay Oglethorpe on Sunday.
