SEWANEE, Tenn. – Seniors
Evey Gannaway (Collierville, Tenn., Collierville) and
Audrey Jernigan (Decatur, Ga., Paideia) and newcomer
Layne Ezzell (Metairie, La., Newman)scored goals for Sewanee as the Tigers shut out Hendrix 3-0 in SCAC women's soccer action. Sewanee led 2-0 at the halftime break.
In the first, Ezzell scored Sewanee's first goal in the 15th minute on a
Fritsl Butler (Chattanooga, Tenn., Baylor) assist. Gannaway followed up with a goal just four minutes later to give the Tigers the two-goal first half edge. Jernigan secured the final 3-0 score in the second half with her 78th minute unassisted goal.
Sewanee outshot Hendrix 14-3 and took three corners compared to five for Hendrix.
Elizabeth Walker (Huntsville, Fla., Randolph) was the goalkeeper for the Tigers and pulled in one save on the day. Allison Mosley had six saves for Hendrix.
Sewanee is 4-2-1 so far and moves to 2-1 in the SCAC with tonight's win. The Tigers will host Rhodes on Sunday. Henrix falls to 3-4 so far on the year and will face Oglethorpe in Atlanta on Sunday.
