Women's Soccer Falls in Near Miss

DANVILLE, Ky. – Sewanee played at Centre on Sunday and was carrying some momentum coming off of an exciting OT win over DePauw on Friday. The Tigers couldn't hold up, though, and Centre topped the visiting Tigers 2-1.

Centre led 1-0 at the half and then got out to a 2-0 lead in the second before senior Audrey Jernigan (Decatur, Ga.) struck for Sewanee scoring on a header in the 81st minute on a Faith Spencer (New York, N.Y.) assist that secured the 2-1 final score in favor of Centre.

Both teams took 16 shots on the day. Newcomer Virginia Zakas (Atlanta) logged four saves in goal or Sewanee and Rosie McAuley had six for Centre.

Sewanee is 3-2-1 and is 1-1 in the league. The Tigers will host Hendrix and Rhodes next weekend. Centre is also 3-2-1 and is unbeaten at 2-0 in the SCAC.
