Sewanee Moves to 1-0 With a Win

Box Score

DELAWARE, Ohio – Sewanee kicked off its 2008 field hockey season today at Ohio Wesleyan University and after being deadlocked at one apiece at halftime, rallied to give head coach Jen Baldaccini her first NCAA head coaching win in her first season at the helm of the Tiger program.

Lynn Hancock (Paris, Ky., Foxcroft) scored an unassisted goal for Sewanee just six minutes into the game, but Ohio Wesleyan rallied, tying it up on a Mimi Anthony goal late in the first. After the halftime break, Hancock scored on an assist by Julie Wilson (McLean, Va., Langley) to give the Tigers the go-ahead goal with 30 minutes left in the contest. The 2-1 Tiger lead would hold to move the Sewanee crew to 1-0 for the year.

The Tigers outshot their hosts 19-6. Sewanee goalie Clarkie Crawford (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate)  had eight saves and only allowed one goal. Krista Murray had 10 saves for Ohio Wesleyan.

While Sewanee is now 1-0, Ohio Wesleyan fell to 0-1 so far. Sewanee will play at Kenyon tomorrow.
