SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee led much of the first half and tied
the game several times in the second versus visiting SCAC foe
DePauw on Sunday, but the visitors ended up topping Sewanee 73-63
in Juhan Gym.
Sewanee jumped out to a 11-2 lead six minutes into the first half,
but DePauw rallied and took over the lead eight minutes later,
securing a 30-25 halftime edge for DePauw. In the second half,
DePauw led much of the half, but Sewanee tied it up several times,
including a 52-52 deadlock with just seven minutes left. DePauw
enede up edging out Sewanee for the 10-point final margin.
Sewanee's two leading scorers, Ben Pursell (Franklin,
Tenn., BGA) and Bradley Pierson (Rome, Ga.,
Darlington) kept for and scored 18 and 17 points for the host
Tigers. For DePauw, Tom Callen led with 23 points. He logged a
double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds, also. Sewanee was 35.3%
accurate from the field, while DePauw was 37.5 good from the field.
Sewanee was 7-20 in three-point tries and DePauw was 8-23 from
behind the line.
Sewanee falls to 2-6 with the loss and is 0-2 in the SCAC. The
Tiger men will play at Emory on Tuesday. DePauw is 4-3 and is 1-1
in the league.
