Sewanee Field Hockey Tops Centre in OT

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee is hosting Centre and DePauw in SCAC field hockey action this weekend to close out its regular season and the Tigers topped the Colonels 2-1 in overtime Saturday after leading 1-0 at the half.

Caitlin McNaughton (Middleburg, Va., Foxcroft) scored Sewanee's first half goal with four minutes left in the first period. In the second, Centre tied it up with a Teresa Johnstone goal, which sent the game into overtime with the teams locked at one.

Four minutes into the first overtime period, Sewanee secured its 10th win of 2008 on a Julie Wilson (McLean, Va., Langley) goal. Wilson was also crowned this year's homecoming queen at last weekend's Sewanee Homecoming football game.

Sewanee is 10-6 so far and is now 3-4 in the SCAC. This is the second straight 10-win season for the Tigers, who are under the first year leadership of coach Jen Baldaccini. This is the first time since 1999 and 2000 that the Tigers have won double-digit games in consecutive years. Sewanee will host DePauw tomorrow at noon.
