Women's Soccer: Sewanee Tops Oglethorpe in SCAC Play

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee moved to 6-2-1 so far in 2008 and 4-1 in the SCAC with a 3-2 win over travel partner Oglethorpe on Saturday night. The Tigers scored all three goals in the first half. Oglethorpe made a run late with two goals, but the Tigers held control for the SCAC win.

Newcomer Lizzie Butler (Carrabelle, Fla., Wakulla) scored Sewanee's first goal in the 15th minute and then Fritsl Butler (Chattanooga, Tenn., Baylor) added one just three minutes later. Senior Evey Gannaway (Collierville, Tenn., Collierville) assisted both goals. Lizzie Butler added another goal for the Tigers late in the first to send the Tigers into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead.

Mary Beth Horton and Alix Stalnaker scored Oglethorpe's goals in the 80th and 85th minutes to secure the final 3-2 score in favor of Sewanee.

Sewanee, which is on a three-match win streak, will face Southwestern and Trinity next weekend in more SCAC play, as will Oglethorpe.
