BOX SCORE
SAN ANTONIO -- Sewanee got out to a 1-0 lead early in San Antonio Sunday on an
Evey Gannaway (Collierville, Tenn., Collierville) goal from a corner kick that would give Sewanee the 1-0 edge over host Trinity for the remainder of the first half. Trinity would get the eventual 3-2 win, though, and would send Sewanee back to the Mountain without the SCAC women's soccer win.
In the second half, Sewanee increased its lead to 2-0 when newcomer
Lizzie Butler (Carrabelle, Fla., Wakulla) scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute. Trinity waited until the 80th minute before scoring the first of its three goals. The scores came all in the last ten minutes of the match and the final Jordan Azar goal would give Trinity the go-ahead goal.
Trinity outshot Sewanee 17-8 and took six corner kicks compared to only three for Sewanee. In goal, first year player
Virginia Zakas (Atlanta, Ga., Westminster) grabbed five saves, while Katie Cowan only had two for Trinity.
Sewanee falls to 6-4-1 and is 4-3-1 in league play. Trinity is now 8-2-1 and is 4-1 in the SCAC.
